Unlimited Vacation Club…Is It Worth It?

You’ve learned a bit about what the Unlimited Vacation Club is. Now you’re wanting to decide if it’s worth signing up for.

Here are the 3 things I think you should take into consideration to decide if UVC is actually worth your time and money.

How often do you vacation? How often do you vacation at all-inclusive resorts?

How often you vacation in a year and even more specifically, how often you do or would vacation at an all-inclusive resort is probably the most important factor.

No doubt the sales person asked you this and as a result chose a package they could potentially sell you and how viable of a sales lead you would be.

Personally, we live in Los Angeles, so it’s a quick flight to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. And we can get very easy and plentiful direct flights to Cancun. As a result, we are fortunate enough to make long weekend getaways to these places and as a result will go to Mexico at least 2-3 times a year.

Before you come for me…we know and understand there are plenty of places we still want to visit in Mexico (still on the list are Oaxaca, Valle de Guadalupe, etc) that are not just hanging out at the resort. And because of our location and ease of travel to these, we’ve done all the “touristy” things in these popular resort towns, so we don’t feel the need to venture out most trips anymore. We do travel to other places and you might get a glimpse of this in future posts 😉.

In my experience, I would say, if you do not vacation at least 2-3x a year or spend at least an entire week (or more) at an all inclusive, this might not be for you. This doesn’t mean you couldn’t try and dabble a bit for a few years to see if this type of travel is for you and sign up for a lower tier membership, but would only recommend this if you are willing to put some work in.

If you do travel multiple times a year and enjoy the all-inclusive vacation, UVC could be something you should seriously consider.

Consistency in terms of service, food, hotel amenities, and expectations

The advantage of something like UVC is that you can expect some level of consistency across the brands of hotels.

Meaning, when we visit a Secrets Resort, we generally know what we can expect to receive in terms of the quality of service, quality of food (and options), amenities, and overall experience. While it can and does vary by resort, it’s not so different that we are having to worry about if the cost was worth it.

We’ve personally been at a few different brands of all-inclusives and we do feel the brands (Secrets, Dreams, Breathless, etc)  in UVC have been some of the best food, alcohol, and experiences.

This means, if you like to experience and dabble into all different types of resorts and brands or care more for the absolute best price and deal, this might not be for you..

However, if you like to know what to generally expect and even at times return and see the same staff and create some friendly acquaintances, then this is something you should consider. I know we’ve seen and spoken with guests who return to the same resort multiple times, have gotten to know some of the staff, and have felt their level of service and connection to the resort was enhanced. While we aren’t quite there, we do enjoy the consistency and have some favorites resorts we’ve returned to and have recommended.

Willingness to put some work into it

In my opinion, the secret sauce to making UVC truly worth it is by putting some work into it. This means, it’s not just booking the hotel and setting and forgetting it.

The secret sauce here is the price match and roll back opportunities. You already got a potentially good deal from the normal 25% preferred rate but it’s even better when the room you book is even cheaper because you were able to price match and get money back.

UVC will price match the lowest room rate and an additional 25%. Meaning if you find a lower room rate on an approve site, UVC will honor that rate and even take an additional 25% off. If you can imagine, this can fetch you really good rates.

As you can tell, this does take a bit of effort and work.

Generally, the work includes checking various sites and comparing prices to what you booked with and then calling or emailing UVC Customer Support.

We honestly have saved thousands of dollars in taking advantage of this over the past 5 years of our membership and what makes the membership actually worth it.

This part is really up to you. Some people will care about this and some will not.

So..Is it Worth It?

What do you think?! Could it be worth it for you?

It truly is up to you to determine if you feel it will be worthwhile for you.

But if you vacation multiple times a year, at an all-inclusive, enjoy consistency, and willing to put in some work, you can make it worth your while and actually over time you can make your money back.

You tell me if these factors are worth it or not…
